Torsten Ball

Torsten is a Principal in Building Science and Vice President at JRS Engineering (JRS), and brings over 25 years of industry experience. With extensive expertise in high-performance, durable building enclosures and a specialty focus in roofing, Torsten leads the JRS Roofing and Waterproofing Division and is a senior member of our project delivery team.

His expertise encompasses a range of building envelope components, systems, and assemblies and includes hands-on experience working with a variety of materials and construction types. Committed to excellence, Torsten is well-versed in current industry codes and standards and brings a depth of knowledge throughout all stages of the building life cycle – from design and construction to maintenance and repair. Torsten’s robust portfolio spans residential, commercial, institutional, and municipal developments. His comprehensive multidisciplinary background has made him a sought-after expert in litigation support, second opinions, and specialized technical consulting. Over the years, Torsten has provided expert engineering services and warranty claim support to numerous clients across Western Canada.

Torsten is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), an approved inspector for the Roofing Contractors Association of BC (RCABC) Guarantee Program, and an International Institute of Building Enclosures Consultants (IIBEC) Registered Roof Observer (RRO). Additionally, Torsten is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and a certified Green Roof Professional (GRP).

Recognized for his leadership in high-performance building enclosures, Torsten serves as the President of the IIBEC Western Canada Chapter (IIBEC WCC). Throughout his longstanding career, Torsten has remained committed to advancing the building science industry. His contributions include participating in the RCABC Green Roof Standard Development Advisory Committee, the RCABC Accepted Observer Committee, the IIBEC WCC Technical and Educational Committees, and the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) Elements Magazine Committee. Additionally, Torsten is a Competency Assessor for EGBC.
