Your Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer with a minimum of 6 years of experience to join our team of technical professionals. In this role, you will manage New Construction projects and address building envelope engineering challenges of advanced complexity, requiring the application of a variety of established building science principles and standards. Day-to-day duties involve communicating with clients and project stakeholders, reviewing design documents (specifications, drawings and details produced by other consultants), reviewing shop drawings and submittals, performing field reviews, and site testing. Buildings range from small to large, wood frame to concrete. This position requires a high degree of initiative, a proactive approach, creativity, and leading other team members to meet assigned objectives. Being solution-oriented, flexible, a strong communicator and willing to learn are essential.
Here’s what you’ll be doing at JRS
Technical Responsibilities
- Oversee and deliver field and office work including:
- Review of construction documents, shop drawings, and design details for building science fundamentals and performance criteria; produce reports
- Evaluate building envelope work to help ensure quality standards are met
- Work alongside and direct team undertaking field reviews throughout construction
- Oversee and perform window tests, air leakage tests, and other field testing
- Communicate effectively with junior and senior staff, clients, and stakeholders to convey professional opinions and risks and limitations associated with decisions
- Assume professional responsibility for projects
- Conduct project post-mortems and share learnings with wider team
Project Management
- Maintain full knowledge of the scope of work and scope of services for each project, including any changes which may occur throughout the course of the project; ensure services are compliant with scope and JRS company standards and procedures
- Review monthly project billing to analyze billed services and ensure accounts are up to date
- Proactively manage all staff working on your projects to ensure profitability and quality consistent with company expectations
Business Development
- Build positive relationships with clients and stakeholders (such as contractors, developers, and property managers) to achieve repeat business
- Proactively seek opportunities to establish relationships with new clients and maintain/improve relationships with existing clients
Here’s what you bring to JRS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Applied Science/ Engineering and P.Eng. designation with EGBC
- A minimum of 6 years of work experience in building science and building envelope consulting
Knowledge, Competencies, and Capabilities
- A commitment to being at the forefront of the industry evidenced by speaking at conferences, attending seminars, contributing to publications, and giving presentations
- A track record of effectively leading project teams
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Superb organizational and time management skills including the abilities to multitask, prioritize, and manage resources effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Self-starter with the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and varied workloads
Other Requirements
- Must be willing to work at heights including climbing ladders, and working on swing stages and scaffolding
- Must hold a valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence
Annual salary range: $100,000 to $125,000
