JRS engineer attempts to break Guinness Record for Cystic Fibrosis
August 24, 2011
Jade Hume, one our engineers, is 1 of 40 women attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest ice hockey game (which is currently 241 hours, yes that is over 10 days!). Jade and the rest of the women are taking on this challenge to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis research.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disorder in North America and kills more Canadian children and young adults than any other inherited disease. CF destroys the lungs and the digestive system. This causes serious respiratory distress and extreme difficulty absorbing nutrients from food. Since 1960, the median age of a person with CF has risen from 4 to 37 thanks to investments in CF research by Cystic Fibrosis Canada. However, a child born with CF today still only has a 50% chance of reaching their 40th birthday.
The game will start on Friday August 26th at 8am at 8 Rinks in Burnaby and will run non-stop (24 hours a day) for 242 hours, ending on Monday September 5th. The game will be played according to the rules set by Guinness. Our goal is to raise $200,000 for research to find a cure for CF
For more information about Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the game, please visit www.CFVancouver.ca or www.LongestGame4CF.com
