Air Barrier & Leakage Testing

JRS Engineering provides blower door air barrier testing for large buildings such as mixed-use and commercial office buildings. A valuable commissioning tool for new buildings, this testing is conducted to meet 2009 Washington and Seattle Energy Code requirements. For existing buildings, these tests can be used to identify air leaks to be patched, which could dramatically decrease heating and cooling costs.

The test involves using multiple high-powered fans to pressurize and/or depressurize the entire enclosure and measuring the flow of air at a variety of pressures. Quantitative results include leakage rates, the cumulative size of holes in the air barrier and rates of air change. While under pressure, qualitative tools are used to locate areas of infiltration.  Check out our brochure for more information on our air barrier testing services.
